Heart Monitor is a utility that monitors your pulse using the iPhones built in microphone or, if you use the iPod Touch 2g, you can use the headphones microphone.

This app shows good results if used as directed.

One of the great extra features allows you to display "I love you!" message in the graph (after you tap on the screen) pretending that it is the heartbeat reading. - A great way to express your feelings! You can also set so it doesnt happen again, (if somebody noticed the tap).

The heart rate or pulse is taken from an average of five heart beats for a quick reading.

Just place the iPhone microphone against your chest, neck or the Ante Cubital Space (interior side of the elbow). The microphone has to be applied against the bare skin (no cloth, even t-shirt), and the iPhone has to be taken out from the case. The microphone has to be in physical contact with the skin.

You will see the graph representing your heartbeat.

The iPhones headphone with microphone can be used as well. You can apply the microphone against your chest, neck or the Ante Cubital Space (interior side of the elbow).

The settings include microphone sensitivity, graph speed, and an optional setting which allows you to display messages such as "I Love You" in the graph, a great way to express your feelings or increased rhythm.

The help includes detailed directions with illustrations.

Pros and cons of Heartbeat Monitor app for iPhone and iPad

Heartbeat Monitor app good for

I used this with my students and also ran it by the physical therapists here in Key West. First, as a learning device, it could not have had better reception from small inquisitive minds. The pulse seemed magical to them and prompted questions about the circulatory system. Next, the therapists gave it the Devils Advocate torture test...and they know how. The accuracy impressed them as well as the operational simplicity. Lastly, I like monitoring myself under stress and following my rate as I practice relaxing techniques. I go to"my happy place" and watch the graph mellow out. Wondeful app, thanks.
The device is very good you have to follow the directs and place it directly on the skin ... I think personally the chest works the best
Once you discover the proper positioning of the mic, the program works great. Will be very useful in the gym. My only wish are some minor changes to the in-program documentation to help position the mic properly.

Some bad moments

After many attempts this program failed to give any usable information. Every reading varied wildly from the last. 35 Bpm to 96 to 58... Much simpler to use the timer on my iPhone and simply count heart beeps for 15 sex then multiply by four. Id like my .99 back.
absolutely no pulse detected. I am a healthy rate with a strong heartbeat and not a single beat was picked up by this app. I would like a refund or for the app to be taken out of the iTunes store since it does not work.
It does not work at all!!!!!@&$)(: I want my money back!!!!!@@&&):
I could not make this application function as it said it should. I followed the directions but had no success. It only picked up artifact from the hits against the skin. I literally had to tap on the microphone to get any action to show in the ECG reading. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS APPLICATION!!!! I recommend that you do not buy it as I feel it is a waste of money that could be used for a cup of coffee.
DIDNT WORK, even with Mic turned all the way up. I WILL be seeking a refund!
Didn´t give any real result. Tried to compare agains my REAL Heartbeat Monitor and I quickly understood that this app does not work.
